The exercise also highlighted integration, collaboration, and flawless coordination, demonstrating the Army’s capability to function efficiently across diverse terrains and challenging weather conditions. According to the statement, the exercise incorporated tactical operations, combat preparations, and flexible manoeuvres designed to enhance responses to evolving battle situations. The Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully created a domestic nanoporous multilayered polymeric membrane for high-pressure seawater desalination, as announced by the Ministry of Defence. The Kanpur-based Defence Materials Stores and Research & Development Establishment (DMSRDE), a DRDO laboratory, developed this technology for Indian Coast Guard (ICG) vessel desalination plants. The development addresses stability concerns related to chloride ion exposure in saline water and was completed within eight months. The MOD statement confirms that DMSRDE and ICG have successfully completed initial technical evaluations in an ICG Offshore Patrolling Vessel’s (OPV) existing desalination facility. The preliminary safety and performance assessments of the polymeric membranes proved successful. Final operational approval from ICG will follow 500 hours of operational testing. The unit currently undergoes testing on an OPV. Following specific modifications, this membrane will significantly benefit seawater desalination in coastal regions, representing another achievement by DMSRDE towards Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
